Have you ever created a baby registry? Diane and I decided to create registries at two places: Amazon and Target. We opted for this because most of our family and friends live miles away from us. So, we figured that online shopping would be easier for folks. Prior to our first ultrasound we did some research, found some lists for first time parents. Anyone who knows us will not be surprised that our next step was to create an Excel spreadsheet with items, which we divided into categories like clothes, feeding, travel, etc. The early conversations included a lot of “oh we need one of those”.
Once we found out that three is our magic number we had to revisit that spreadsheet. Diane did more research and found recommendations from other parents of multiples regarding what is needed to care for three babies. Then the conversations changed to Diane saying things like “we need 8 of those per baby” and me saying “seriously?!” and changing the numbers on the spreadsheet. At first it felt a lot like ‘holy cow’. But, then, once the numbers were in the spreadsheet and we actually started creating the registries we saw the silver lining. Individuals who create a baby registry for one baby have to make A LOT of choices. Which blanket is the cutest? Which bouncer looks like the most fun? What color of onesies do we want? There is great freedom in fewer decisions my friends! Suddenly she picked what she wanted, I picked what I wanted AND we got to pick more – of a lot of things. There’s a bright side to everything – and when you’re blessed with the magic of three it gets really easy to see.
